Is there an example of a workflow that reaches out to an API?

$

Thus far, I've been building workflows that call out to powershell commands that reach out to a restful API that accepts and responds with JSON.

and those workflows work very well as is with a powershell module but there's some overhead there that comes with the use of the powershell module and reaching out to a powershell host locally or remotely.

So that got me thinking about being able to communicate directly with the API from within vRO. Are there any examples of how to make http/https calls directly?

thank you.

How to get switch info (public or private network) using SOAP API ?

$

I can't find a way to get any information about VirtualSwitch using WS API. Only create and remove method:

* addVirtualSwitch

* removeVirtualSwitch

Also there is no common way to get info from  folder, like for PortGroups :

getMOREFs.inFolderByType(rootRef, "Network");

when I try

getMOREFs.inFolderByType(rootRef, "HostVirtualSwitch");

I've got exception: wrong type.

So my original goal is implement two list methods:

listPrivateNetrowrks() // portgroups or virtual switch with out public access (pnic associated)

listPublicNetrowrks()  // networks with public access realized with associated  pnic port to virtual switch

Please HELP!

Re: Monitor portgroup and vSwitch traffic on Connected Physical switch interface

We need following traffic on connected Switch ports to capture all traffic which is comming on portgroups and vSwitches.

1. Whatever traffic coming from VM to vSwitch send them on Physical Switch Interface

2. Whatever traffic coming from VM to PortGroups send them on Physical Switch Interface

For Instance:-

1. 2 VMs in one ESXi server

2. VM1 connected to 1 port groups

3. VM2 connected to second port groups

- Both portgroup are configured with different vlan. routing and ping reply is okay.

- Now When VM1 send traffic to VM2 that will goes to connected portgroups then forward traffic to another portgroup.

- As per above traffic flow traffic is not visible on connected physical switch ports.

We are looking for solution without having major changes in configuration.

We have gone through your previous suggested link but it require lots of change. Please let us know any other solution.

What does it say in your vSphere client when you're logged in and have your vCenter highlighted in the left pane and you look at 'events' on the Tasks and Events tab?  It should show those things.

I need to use 10 VMs as Linux desktops for development purpose. Also we own below licenses as of now.

1. vSphere 6 Enterprise Plus

2. vCenter Server 6 Standard

Any idea if View Connection Server license is included here?

Also, when we are going to have the direct connection to Linux View Agents?

Unable to add SDK to eclipse - Could not find jar:file:c:/Users/.../VMware-vRealizeOperations-SDK.zip!/

Hi,

I'm trying to add vROPs SDK to eclipse with Help -> install new software -> add but getting the following error message:

Could not find jar:file:c:/Users/.../VMware-vRealizeOperations-SDK.zip!/

I get it when trying the archive option and also when unzip the sdk and choose the root sdk folder.

I've tried it with eclipse versions: kepler, Luna and Mars.

I've tried it with installing first the "VMware WBIS" plugin and also without installing it.

The probem is probablly not the adding plugin because I can manage to add other plugins.

Any solution will be very helpful because I've run out og ideas.

Thanks,

Erez.

Re: How to build up the start menu in Windows 8.1 Enterprise?

Hi Pim,

Thank you for the feedback you provided to Jan.

If anyone else is strugling with follow these steps below:

Tip: Don't use a mandatory profile, you can personalize Active Setup with UEM.

  1. Create and import a default start menu following this blog: http://stealthpuppy.com/customizing-the-windows-8-1-start-screen-dont-follow-microsofts-guidance/ in your master image.
So that the user gets a customized start screen when he log ons for the first time.
  2. Create a new Personalization Windows setting and Call it Start Menu. Add the config below:

[IncludeRegistryTrees]

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Grid

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Accent

[IncludeFolderTrees]

<LocalAppData>\Microsoft\Windows\Caches

[IncludeIndividualFolders]

<AppData>\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

[IncludeFiles]

<LocalAppData>\Microsoft\Windows\appsFolderLayout.bin

<LocalAppData>\Microsoft\Windows\appsFolder.itemdata-ms

3.Create a new Personalization Windows setting, select Active Setup. So that the active setup is saved between user sessions.
The second logon is than about 5 to 10 seconds faster.

That's it, the users start menu will be roamed between sessions and you can manage the user start menu all apps view with UEM.
You can set the all apps view default with desktop apps listed firt with GPO for user convenience.

Credits to Pim for pointing us in the right direction.

Kind regards,

Maarten

Optimal settings for memory overcommitment?

$

One can find abundant guidance in re configuration settings for maximal VM performance.  What about getting the absolute maximum number of VMs running within a limited quantity of RAM?  Some of the aforementioned performance settings are almost certainly antagonistic toward this goal (eg. disable page sharing).

Other than the memory preference to allow "most" VM memory to be swapped, are there any other tricks for getting a couple of extra VMs fired up?

We ended up not using mandatory profiles because it s not reliable.

Just the default profile and we personalize Active Setup between sessions.

Kind regards,

Maarten

Some more details might help.

Which files do you see in the VM's folder? Please post either a screenshot of the datastore browser window, or the command line output of ls -lisa.

This information along with the VM's .vmx file, and the latest vmware.log (use the Attach link) might help with troubleshooting the issue.
