How long does it take for your VCenter to do the reconfigure?

And when you are logged into the machine, what does the svservice.log file say? Can you see a Blocking user logon message in the log file? Also, are you using writable volumes?

Re: How to upgrade vom 5.5.3 to 7.x

Hello,

thanks for the first answers.

I did in the past the export / reimport of the workflows (+ resources, + whatever) as a package.
There are only a few problems: All Database Connections / other things with passwords are not working anymore due to a new certificate.

An other point is that all scheduled workflows were in the past missing (maybe Orchestrator server got a new Server-ID for the database or whatever?) so I had to add them manually, too.

Is there a trick to get that scheduled workflows without much work to a new Orchestrator Appliance?

Welcome to Workstation community. I think you can change the default location for vm(Edit -> Preferences). then the new created vm will be saved in new location.

Hey guys,

Is there any external JavaScript editor I can use? The built in one just isn't good enough in my opinion. I'm fairly new with JavaScript and like to test snippets of code as I go along. Using the built in editor is cumbersome!

vRA 6.2.4 Property Layouts not working / Catalog Order

$

Hi All,

I am having issues in both my lab and production environment with property layouts, they are just not working at all.

I have tried applying the layout and the custom properties direct to the blueprint, I have also tried adding them to a build profile and assigning the profile to a blueprint. I have tried adding the custom properties to a build profile and the layout direct to the blueprint. All of the above and the property layout just aren't working. The only way I can order the custom properties on the request for is alphabetically, but the issue there is I am using Vrm.DataCenter.Location and VirtualMachine.Network0.Name and VirtualMachine.Disk0.StorageReservationPolicy which I cannot change, and I need Vrm.DataCenter.Location to appear first

I cannot seem to find anything whilst searching, was hoping someone might have had a similar issue?

Also is there a way to order the items in the catalog other than alphabetically?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dean

vCenter Orphaned Problem?

$

Hello,

I have 2 Dell R920 Servers and they work cluster. (ESXi 5.5)

When i connect vCenter Server, virtual machines show as orphaned in vCenter Server. Please find attached "orphaned.jpg".

On the other hand, i can connect virtual machines with remote desktop connection and when i connect ESXi hosts with vSphere client, all virtual machines show work without problem. All applications on VMs works perfectly.

How can i fix orphaned failure in vCenter Server?

I would be most grateful if you would look into this matter as soon as possible.

Thank you

Re: vMotion history of a single VM

Also take a look at the discussion:  "History of vMotion events"

History of vmotion events

Do you have access to the vCenter SQL database?  If you want something quick and dirty, you can do this with a simple query.  The database should have all tasks scheduled since the vCenter instance was installed.

use VCDB

SELECT [TASK_ID]
      ,[NAME]
      ,[ENTITY_NAME]
      ,[COMPLETE_STATE]
      ,[QUEUE_TIME]
      ,[START_TIME]
      ,[COMPLETE_TIME]
  FROM [vcdb].[dbo].[VPX_TASK]
  where (NAME = 'vim.VirtualMachine.migrate' or NAME = 'vim.VirtualMachine.relocate') AND ENTITY_NAME = 'MY_VM'
  order by START_TIME desc

The "migrate" task is a host migation, the "relocate" task is a datastore migration.

Cannot Connect to vCenter Web or C# Client SSL -VPXD-Extension store missing?

$

Hey Everyone I am having trouble connecting to the vCenter Web Client and Thick Client I am getting this error on the web client

503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [N7Vmacore4Http20NamedPipeServiceSpecE:0x7fa689893d10] _serverNamespace = / _isRedirect = false _pipeName =/var/run/vmware/vpxd-webserver-pipe).

Now I've google'd until my eyes gave out I've tried the following:

  • Power Cycle vCenter
  • Make sure all services are coming on
  • Tried Resetting the certificates to the default using the certificate manager
  • Manually start vmware-vpxd service to build out the certificate still fails.

Now I think the issue I am seeing there isn't a vpxd-extension store for the .cer and .key files, and I dont know how to create one or just create defaults. Any links or guides would be a great deal of help.

Re: Add Database workflow for SQL Plug-in hangs

$

So after a lot of guess-and-check testing, we were finally able to get the database to show up in Inventory.  It worked after removing a space we had in the database "Name" field, which is just a display name for the plug-in (we changed it from "SCSMDB Staging" to "SCSMDB_Staging").  The "Add Database" workflow was still in a running state for far too long (2.5 hours), so removing the space may have just been a false positive test case, but that was the last change we made before it finally showed up in Inventory.  I thought I'd mention this as the answer in case it helps anyone else.

vMotion history from PostgreSQL database?

$

Does anyone know how to query the PostgreSQL Database to find out the vMotion history of a single vm guest?

I have the SQL commands to do this against the MS-SQL database, but can't seem to get them to work on the PostgreSQL database?

For MS-SQL:

use VCDB

SELECT [TASK_ID]
      ,[NAME]
      ,[ENTITY_NAME]
      ,[COMPLETE_STATE]
      ,[QUEUE_TIME]
      ,[START_TIME]
      ,[COMPLETE_TIME]
  FROM [vcdb].[dbo].[VPX_TASK]
  where (NAME = 'vim.VirtualMachine.migrate' or NAME = 'vim.VirtualMachine.relocate') AND ENTITY_NAME = 'MY_VM'
  order by START_TIME desc

The "migrate" task is a host migration, the "relocate" task is a datastore migration.

Did you unblock try to "unblock" the file, or the whole directory?

The VMware Documentation says the following

Download the Software agent bootstrap file from https://vRealize_VA_Hostname_fqdn:5480/service/software/index.html.

a

Download the Software bootstrap agent file https://vRealize_VA_Hostname_fqdn:5480/service/software/download/vmware-vra-software-agent-bootstrap-windows_version.zip.

b

Right-click the file and select Properties.

c

Click General.

d

Click Unblock.

Important

If you do not disable this Windows security feature, you cannot use the Software agent bootstrap file.

Prepare a Windows Reference Machine to Support Software
